Principal’s Message
This school opened in 1984, and is famous for having the longest history amongst all science high schools in Korea. The aims of this school is to contribute to the nation through science, and to raise students into human resources fully equipped with science and engineering expertise who serve the development of science for all of mankind.
There are about 2,500 graduates so far, many of whom(about five hundred graduates) have doctoral degrees in science and engineering, and many of them(about one hundred) are teaching students as professors in Korea and abroad.
Every year, about half the graduates go to Seoul National University, KAIST, and POSTEC. And 15% of the graduates go to Institutes of Science and Technology like GIST, DGIST and UNIST, and 30% to Yonsei, Korea, Hanyang, Seongkyunkwan University.
The educational methodology is centered on inquiry and discussion-centered classes. In the 10th grade students are given research projects, perform independent research for a year and have opportunities to present their research results to fellow students, parents and teachers.
To build up students character and foster creativity, a variety of club activities are provided, such as nature exploration, planet observation, math, physics, chemistry, biology, music, sports, drama, English conversation, movie appreciation, writing, religion and so forth.
One challenge the school faces is that some parts of the school curriculum do not correspond with the Korean SAT. Thus, sometimes the teaching staff can not help but hesitate when providing more advanced courses to the students. However, in terms of math and science graduates of this school reach the levels of comprehension attained by freshman and sophomore college students.
